Montañas De Basura

2011
Photo series

Montañas de Basura (Mountains of Garbage) was done during one of my trips to visit my mother in Borja, a small village near Zaragoza (Spain). Her house is such an amazing place that has mostly been decorated with recycled materials. In the series, I capture the moment when she and her husband go to the local dump to look for reusable pieces of wood to build a room on their terrace. Because it was at the top of a mountain, the views from there were mind-blowing. The place was so photogenic that I took around 200 photographs in a couple of hours. It was really hard to pick the best ones. This collection marked my first purely documentary series of photographs.
